Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Product Description A table fan that quietly and effectively cools an entire room without any blades? Introducing the Dyson Air Multiplier, which works differently from conventional fans. The Air Multiplier uses an airfoil-shaped ramp to amplify the airflow 15 to 18 times to create a cool blast of smooth air without the unpleasant buffeting caused by spinning blades. The energy-efficient motor draws in more than 5 gallons of air per second using the same technologies used in jet engines. The air passes over the airfoil-shaped ramp, which channels its direction. Air behind and around the machine is also drawn into the airflow, amplifying it at least 15 times for a quiet, cool breeze that will let you relax. With no blades or grille to get in the way, the Air Multiplier is safe around kids and pets, and it’s easy to clean too. The touch-tilt feature pivots on its own center of gravity, letting it stay put without clamping. You can also adjust the airflow to get as much as you want. There’s no “high,” “medium,” or “low”; the dimmer switch lets you set the exact power level you want. The Air Multiplier oscillates with a touch up to 90 degrees to cover a whole room. Includes base, loop amplifier, and operating manual. 2-year warranty. Measures 19.5 x 12 x 6 inches with 10-inch loop.

Dichter We were attracted to this fan due to its "cool" factor and it performs as advertised. However for its commanding price, it could use some improvements such as: The silver coating on the 12" model looks like cheap plastic. We exchanged ours for the 10" model in gloss white and it presented a significantly more refined appearance. We purchased the Dyson to replace a standard table fan in a mini-home theater room to reduce the noise level. Sadly, the Dyson, due to its high speed internal turbo motor, was noticeably louder than the fan it was to replace. We kept it anyhow but for a different application. For the money, a simple remote control would have been a welcome addition. The variable speed control is a nice touch but its range seems limited to "medium" on its lowest setting, reducing its usefulness for close-up gentle (and quiet) cooling (in our instance, sharing a computer table). That said, it it does move a lot of air, looks great and it a no-brainer for anyone with small children. 8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. 3The Coolness Cools Off Quickly By Captain Latte I recently bought this at Costco for $188. Yep, if you want to save a little money, that is where you can get a "cheaper" one. I used it for a few weeks and returned it. We have a 2 1/2 year-old daughter so thought that it might be nice to have for her. The fan works as advertised and it actually pretty cool. However, after a few days, the coolness wears off and you start to notice some of the issues. First off, the fan is a bit louder than you would think for the technology. The air flow is quite good and I found it to reach closer to 8-10' range versus the 3' range all the reviewers who didn't actually buy one of these claim. I do like the fact that you can really dial in the exact amount of air this thing pushes unlike others where you typically have just 2-3 settings. And the oscillating features works as you might expect. A couple of issues that I had with it. First off, is that you can't really adjust the angle of the fan much. It pretty much shoots straight out and that is it, so you need to prop it up against something to add any significant angle to it. The main issue I had, however, was that it wasn't very stable. I wish this thing had a bigger/wider stand as our daughter easily knocked it over several times. So what is the point of child-safety blade-less feature if the fan can easily be toppled. In the end, we didn't think the $200 value was worth it. You pay a lot for the name and I guess the cool patent for this thing. But we decided that ultimately there is nothing that even compares to the Vornado fans, which do have decent child safety protection. 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. 1Not a fan
By C. L Scheck

This is a $300 fan. Yes, it's just a fan. There are fan blades and
a motor in the base.

Unlike a conventional fan with big, slow rotating blades this thing
has a small, rapidly rotating fan in the base. Ordinarily that would
make for a very noisy appliance. Here, however, it does as well since
IT'S JUST A FAN.

This thing is LOUD. It is also an irritating, fairly high pitched
loud.

Don't trust your ears in a retail store; you won't hear it due to
the high ambient noise.

If you are determined to spend $300 on a $30 fan just make sure you can return it after you get it home.
